Update...
As many of you have heard in the past hour the Governor Kelly announced that Kansas public schools and our activities (including fall sports) will not start before Labor Day. Also, in her announcement today she stated that she’ll mandate precautionary practices that schools have to adhere to once we come back after Labor Day (masks, temp checks, etc). Unlike when she closed schools in March we were not given a heads up on this situation so I do not have many answers at this time.
What I can tell you is this; tomorrow afternoon our USD 224 District Leadership Team (DLT) is still meeting via Zoom with representatives from Kansas Department of Education to view the Navigating Change documents that KSDE produced this week. USD 224’s DLT will also, as scheduled, meet next week to continue our discussion as to how USD 224 schools will open once we are allowed to. It is still our goal to create a safe environment for our students to learn, socialize, and achieve their highest potential as productive members of a global society.
I can also tell you that USD 224 will continue to do it’s best to be as transparent in our process of developing our returning to school plan as possible. Thank you to those of you that have already filled out the survey that was sent out earlier today.
As always, please feel free to email me at abaker@usd224.com with any questions you may have. I’ll try my best with the info I have to answer.
~Mr. Baker
